“The PC is the main entertainment platform for millions of movie watchers worldwide, so it makes sense for us to support Ultra HD Blu-ray, which will offer viewers the opportunity to enjoy their entertainment in greater colors, better resolution, and across a wider range of devices,” said Dr. Jau Huang, Chairman and CEO at CyberLink. “Engaging with Scenarist and the members of the UHDG is the perfect way to ensure a high degree of compatibility from the launch of the format, and we look forward to working closely to develop a rich UHD-BD ecosystem.”
The Ultra HD Blu-ray specification includes 3840×2160 video resolution with advanced HDR 10-bit color and HFR up to 60 frames per second. With 400 nit average and 700- 1000 nit peaks, the image brilliance and color depth potential is a dramatic quality increase over standard 100 nit televisions in homes today and offers content creators a vastly larger available color pallet with which to create new and exciting visual experiences.
“We are delighted to be working closely with CyberLink to support Ultra HD Blu-ray,” said Chris Neely, managing partner at Scenarist, LLC. “As the world-standard DVD and Blu-ray Disc software player developer worldwide, CyberLink is again providing the thought-leadership and innovation required to support the PC industry.”
Scenarist has began delivering early development phase authoring tools to members of its UHDG focus group in March of 2015. UHDG authoring facility members have been actively developing titles in support of the Ultra HD Blu-ray launch expected in early 2016.
