LAS VEGAS, NEVADA (April 14, 2015) – Scenarist, LLC, the developer of Hollywood- standard professional Blu-ray Disc authoring systems based in Marin County, California, announced today at the National Association of Broadcasters convention (NAB) that DTS (NASDAQ: DTSI), a Blu-ray Disc Association board member, has joined the Scenarist Ultra HD Group (UHDG) as an advisory group member. Scenarist established the UHDG, a focus group comprised of high-end authoring facilities already engaged in UHD content creation, to provide early access to its new authoring technology and products in support of the new Ultra HD Blu-ray format. UHDG Advisory Group members are typically technology developers and CE companies that benefit from working closely with the professional authoring community and want to gain access to the developing technology in the critical launch phase of the new format. The proven results of this interaction include increased compatibility between packaged media and new CE players at the format launch point, which maximizes consumer adoption.
The Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) announced extensions to the Blu-ray Disc format at CES 2015. The new format is to be called Ultra HD Blu-ray (UHD-BD) and includes support for ultra high definition, high dynamic range 4K video, increased content storage and Digital Bridge which enables the ability to export content from Blu-ray discs to other electronic formats such as thumb drives, hard discs and memory cards.
“Scenarist is renowned for their international-standard authoring tools, and they are well positioned to deliver the tools necessary to launch next generation Ultra HD Blu- ray,” said Patrick Watson, executive vice president of corporate strategy and development at DTS. “We are excited to partner with Scenarist as they integrate support for our DTS:X audio streams and incorporate support for Digital Bridge technology into their next generation authoring platform.”
As a key part of their UHDG Advisory Group participation, DTS will assist Scenarist by working closely in the development of Scenarist’s authoring tools for Ultra HD Blu-ray.
“We are delighted that DTS has joined the UHDG Advisory Group. Their participation in our group will help ensure that authoring companies become more quickly prepared for the new format, and that translates into more titles available at launch,” said Rolf Hartley, managing partner at Scenarist, LLC. “DTS’ deep understanding of the Ultra HD Blu-ray format as well as their amazing technology and products will be strong assets for Scenarist customers not only at launch, but long afterwards as well.”
Scenarist is targeting the release of its Ultra HD Blu-ray authoring system in the third- quarter of 2015. Scenarist will attend the National Association of Broadcasters Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada in stand SU11221MR on April 13-16, 2015.
